Don't let bad posture get the best of you during the holidays.

Here are 6 ways to avoid bad posture as told by Daphene Howland on RealSimple.com.

1. Avoid Bad Posture When You’re Wrapping Gifts

  • What you do: To plop down on the floor with boxes, paper, ribbons, scissors, and tape spread all around and become a one-woman wrapping machine.
  • What you should do:  To sit in a chair at a table, with your abdomen pulled in, your stomach muscles engaged, and your shoulders back and down.
2. Avoid Bad Posture When You're Cooking
  • What you do: To start your cooking marathon by clearing off the counter and quickly starting to chop.
  • What you should do:  The surface should be no more than a few inches below your hands. If it’s too low, stack cutting boards; if it’s too high, stand on a sturdy stool.
3. Avoid Bad Posture When You’re on the Road
  • What you do: To slump in your seat―be it on a plane or a train or in a car.
  • What you should do:  To sit with your legs uncrossed, your feet flat on the floor, and your spine straight.
4. Avoid Bad Posture When You're on the Phone

  • What you do:  To cradle the phone between your neck and shoulders while jotting down information.
  • What you should do:  To use a headset attachment so you can talk hands-free.
5. Avoid Bad Posture When You’re Juggling Luggage
  • What you do: To overload yourself by hanging a heavy bag on your shoulder, toting one in your hand, and dragging another behind you.
  • What you should do: To redistribute the weight by clipping the shoulder bag onto the wheeled bag.
6.  Avoid Bad Posture When You’re at a Party

  • What you do: To step out in a pair of high heels, even though heels higher than two inches change the alignment of your ankles, knees, and hips.
  • What you should do: To party in a pretty pair of ballet flats or some other comfortable low-heeled shoes.

Losing weight the healthy way

Losing weight the healthy way

Water. Studies show that frequent intake of water throughout the day boosts weight loss, especially drinking water before meals.  Replacing sodas with water also reduces daily liquid caloric intake, aiding in weight loss. Adults in a healthy weight range should consume eight, 8-ounce glasses of water each day. For every ten pounds an individual is overweight, eight additional ounces are recommended. Ice water is reputed to burn more calories than room temperature water when sipped. For those who don’t like water, adding lemon juice or sliced cucumber provides a healthy flavoring.
Clean eating. Consuming non-processed foods proves to be a healthy weight loss method. Processed breads, meats (potted and packaged meats, bologna, sausage), and cereals contribute to obesity and excess weight, leaving the body devoid of necessary nutrients. Fresh vegetables and fruits in a variety of colors are best steamed or lightly sautéed with canola oil. Lean meats, poultry, and fish can be grilled or baked. Low-fat (rather than fat-free) sauces and dressings act as a healthy alternative to regular mayonnaise, salad dressings, and other sauces.
Cardio exercise. Health professionals recommend thirty minutes of cardiovascular exercise (speed walking, jogging, aerobics) at least three times a week for healthy individuals. An additional 1-3 days per week (in 30 minute increments) should be added for weight loss.
B-12 Injections.  Many individuals lack the B-12 vitamin, which causes decreased energy levels and may slow the metabolism. Injections of B-12 can provide a boost of energy, allowing individuals to feel more energetic throughout the day. Studies show these injections are beneficial for individuals with low levels of B-12, but may have little effect on those who possess adequate levels of the vitamin.
Body Wraps. The European body wrap reportedly rids the body of toxins, and many are guaranteed to achieve a loss of 6 to 30 inches in a few hours. Benefits of the body wrap include reducing the appearance of stretch marks and cellulite, and is said to tone and tighten the skin.
The Full Body Rejuvenation Center offers weight loss management, physician supervised hCG, B-12 injections, lipotropic/fat burning B-12 injections, Lipotherme, European body wraps, and other weight loss services.

After the Car Accident: Chiropractic Care and Massage Therapy

Car accidents bring many frustrations, especially when injuries are involved. Whiplash, back injuries, and the flight or flight stress response leave the injured feeling sore and overwhelmed. Chiropractic care and massage therapy are often used to alleviate the stress and soreness connected with such events.

Because misalignments occur with most accidents, chiropractic care should be sought shortly after the event. Specific details of the accident should be given to the chiropractor in order to aid him in the choice of treatment. X-rays may be taken to check for broken bones or fractures before treatment begins. Treatment will adjust areas of misalignment, while increasing joint mobility and reducing muscle stiffness and pain.
If there are no severe bruises or muscle strains involved, massage therapy may also be used to relieve soreness and stress after a car accident. Chiropractors and massage therapists often work together to aid clients in their recovery. While there are many forms of massage therapy available, it is best to consult with a chiropractor or doctor before scheduling an appointment for massage when injuries are involved. Certain types of massage may aggravate injuries, so caution should be used when selecting a therapist. Swedish and Shiatsu (acupressure) massage are beneficial for those with car accident related injuries, allowing the alleviation of muscle tension, while increasing circulation to promote healing to injured areas.
These forms of massage also promote relaxation, relieving stress caused by the adrenaline that floods the body during an accident. Shiatsu massage is often chosen for its simplicity. It has no adverse side effects, and can be used on clients of any age. It also allows clients to remain fully clothed while being treated. Rolfing (the hardest form of massage) and myofascial release should only be used after consulting a chiropractor or physician, as they both work deep tissue, which may aggravate certain types of injuries.

The Trouble with Diets

The Trouble with Diets

The most difficult issue with losing weight and keeping it off is willpower. Losing weight is a hard thing to do and not everyone can stay on track. Sometimes this is where a wellness center is a great thing because not only can we customize a diet plan for you, which will help optimize the most energy from the foods you eat, but we can offer plenty of necessary emotional support along the way! While with each jeans size dropped the stronger one’s motivation tends to get, all it takes are a few holiday parties, one too many fruity cocktails and irresistible sweets (gingerbread cupcakes, anyone?) to fall off track and get discouraged. Here are a few tips to help keep you informed. Remember, if you fall off and have a bad night, don’t beat yourself up, we’ve all been there! Just enjoy the indulgence while you can and make better decisions next time!

1) Mint has been known to increase mental stimulation and ward off hunger pains. Carry gum or a couple of fresh mint sprigs to chew on when you feel weak.

2) Always, always ALWAYS carry water with you! If you need something warm, opt for green tea, but go easy on the honey. The trick is to take in more liquids than you do food, this helps your body to feel fuller longer so your less likely to nosh on nonsense.

Stress

Stress the Silent Killer

stress and gray hair

Did you know that there are three major types of stress? Did you know that research has found that stress can make individuals more prone to both physical and psychological problems, including anxiety and heart disease?  Did you also know that as you are reading this your probably stressing out about something?

If you are, it’s time to stop! Stress is HORRIBLE for us! Not only can it cause disease, age us prematurely and just overall make us crazy, stress can also put you into an early grave! Who wants that?

The three major types of stress are categorized as:

Crisis Situation (earthquakes, floods and other assorted natural disasters that one has no control over)

Daily Life (deadlines, annoying colleagues, that guy you see every morning who just doesn’t get the hint that your not interested, traffic jams, evil bosses and so forth)

Major Life Changes (such as divorce, losing a child, going back to school, moving and all those things that we simply have no control over)

However, don’t fret! Despite our crazy stressful lives, there are things we can all do to relax:

Take a vacation (somewhere where the only requirement is to relax!)

Practice yoga (hey, those mats aren’t just for laying on!)

Treat yourself to a spa day (gel pedicure? Sure, why not?)

Or, you could come to Full Body Rejuvenation and wellness center and receive chiropractic adjustments to take all that pressure off the places in your body where it shouldn’t be so you can handle anything that life has to throw your way.

Let us take your physical stress away so that your mental stress doesn’t seem so bad. Once you start feeling amazing, not only is life a whole new place; but you’ll know you made the right decision. Don’t be a Chiro-Skeptic

Don’t be a Chiro-Skeptic

The dictionary describes the term “chiropractic” as the following- “The diagnosis and manipulative treatment of misalignments of the joints, especially those of the spinal column”. While some people believe in the healing techniques associated with chiropractic care, others are far more skeptical.  Before assuming that Chiropractors don’t know what they’re doing or talking about, consider this:

Chiropractic adjustments are given for all sorts of reasons- car accidents, headaches, neck pain, etc., which hinder the body’s ability to perform at its optimum capacity. Restriction of the spine in any way can cause nerve pressure, inflammation and limited range of motion, as well as other factors. These misalignments (also known as subluxations) interfere with proper functioning of the spine and nervous system. When these adjustments are given, the spine is able to “unlock”, which helps the nerves restore proper function throughout the body, which causes the body to feel better.

Chiropractic care is something that should be researched with as much care as researching any other sort of medical professional. Make sure this is something you’re comfortable with, first and foremost. Do your homework! Understand the benefits and make sure this is something that will work for you. Some of the benefits include improved body function, a non-invasive, drug free approach to healing the body and best of all- no surgery!

If you’re a naturalist who hates the idea of popping pills to get over some back pain, chiropractic treatment would probably be your first option. The best way to enter chiropractic care is with an open mind- and once you experience the awesome benefits that come with it, there’s no turning back!
